Movement Lab
I am teaming up once more with
Colorado Conservatory of Dance to pilot another program responding to the needs of today and tomorrow's dance artists. "The Conservatory" is the culmination of my long career in the dance world wearing many hats and fulfilling many interests. I have had the opportunity to experience the dance culture in a great deal of environments within companies, schools and academies throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. In my opinion, I find much of what we offer students in the U.S. somewhat limiting. I would like to do what I can to connect dancers to a more global picture with whatever resources I have. We will be bringing in the instructors and repetiteurs from the most influential dance makers of our time including; William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek. The program will also be deeply rooted in the overall individual and fostering each persons gifts and contribution to the world as whole person.
More about
Movement Lab
“One of the reasons I left Houston Ballet and started my own company was to develop further as a dancer, as well as a dance maker. Having the opportunity to dance some of the most current works by Kylian was an unimaginable growth experience. The knowledge and generosity from the repetiteurs was an extraordinary gift. We worked with over 20 choreographers at DWDT, the work was vast and very challenging. There are fewer and fewer companies that provide similar global work in the U.S. and I believe that limits our young dancers to be future contributors on that global dance scale’, states Walsh.
“I think we have a responsibility to generously explore and pass on what feels important and relevant to the next generation. The current format of a traditional company might be outdated and a wider view of expression may need to be exercised. I would like to do what I can to foster the new creative energy.”
